Hello Norfolk explorers 👋

It definitely felt like summer here this week, the kind of warm that makes you want to be outside every evening. We spent Friday at Norwich Cathedral for the Shakespeare Festival, watching The Lord Chamberlain's Men perform Othello in the Cloister, full Elizabethan costumes, live music, the works. Both nights sold out this year, and next year's show is Much Ado About Nothing, so keep an eye out for the ticket announcement.

Speaking of nail biters, England hung on with ten men to beat Mexico 3-2 and book their place in the World Cup quarter-finals. They're up against Norway this Saturday at 10pm, so it'll probably be another late one for us.

🌹 Rose Field Open Days (9–10 July)

Whartons Garden Roses opens its 70 acre rose field to the public for two days only, with over 1.5 million roses across more than 300 varieties in full summer bloom. It's run by the Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity, so your ticket also supports hospice and bereavement care across Norfolk and Waveney.

🌻 Norfolk Garden Show (10–12 July)

Three days of plants, flowers and gardening inspiration, with specialist nurseries, outdoor shopping stands, garden furniture and ornaments, and a food and drink hall to browse. Dogs are welcome on a lead, and parking is free, though there's no wheelchair hire on site this year.

👑 Lord Mayor's Celebration (10–12 July)

Norwich's Lord Mayor's Weekend returns for three days of celebrations, including the Lord Mayor's Procession, a garden party at Chapelfield Gardens, the Lanes Fayre and the Great Norwich Duck Race. This year's theme is Wild About Norwich, and all the key events are free.

🎵 King's Lynn Festival (12–25 July)

One of the oldest music festivals in England celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, with a packed two week programme of concerts, films, walks and special events across historic venues in King's Lynn. Under 25s can get half price tickets.

🎡 The Burnhams Flower Show & Carnival (11 July)

A proper traditional village show running since 1905, with a carnival parade, a horticultural marquee, children's activities, arena events, craft stalls, a beer tent and a funfair. There's free live music in the marquee come evening, and entry is just £2 with under 12s free.

🎻 Five Churches Festival (8–12 July)

Five days of classical music across five historic churches in the Glaven Valley, now in its fourth year. This year's programme features international cellist Guy Johnston, a concert with Classical Brit Award winners Blake, chamber music, jazz and a family concert.

🍻 Hunstanton Beer and Gin Festival (11 July)

A free outdoor festival celebrating Norfolk's beer, gin and cider producers, with plenty of chances to sample, buy and chat to the makers themselves. There's live music throughout the day plus children's entertainment, including bubble shows and mocktail making.

🎪 Summer Circus & Water Spectacular (8 July–13 September)

International circus acts return to Britain's last surviving standalone circus building for the summer season, alongside the famous water spectacular where the whole stage sinks into a giant pool for a synchronised swimming display. Hosted by Jack Jay and Johnny Mac.

🏰 The Labyrinth Challenge (Norfolk) (11–12 July)

The UK's largest inflatable obstacle course, and reportedly the world's biggest bouncy castle, touring Norfolk as part of its 10th anniversary tour. Tickets give a timed one hour slot with unlimited attempts, and there's an 80s themed adults only evening session on the Saturday. The course itself isn't wheelchair accessible, though wheelchair users are welcome to watch from the side.

🌳 Strumpshaw Tree Fair (11–12 July)

Norfolk's largest fair of its kind turns eleven this year, bringing together over 100 stalls of woodworkers, craftspeople and artisans alongside live music, a dance tent, family workshops, storytelling and locally sourced food and ale. Tickets are cash only at the gate.

📜 Norwich History Festival (14–24 July)

Now in its second year, this eleven day programme explores why history matters through talks, walks, film showings, workshops and exhibitions across the city, digging into Norwich's rich and varied past. It kicks off this week, so plenty of time to dip in and out over the coming days.

🎶 Festival Too (27 June–11 July, Fri & Sat only)

Norfolk's biggest free outdoor music festival wraps up its final weekend this week in King's Lynn, mixing tribute acts with genuine headline names. It's been running since 1985 and is one of Europe's largest free outdoor music festivals.

🎭 Cromer Pier Show (27 June–19 September)

Britain's only full season end of pier show continues its run at the Pavilion Theatre, with singing, dancing, comedy and rotating guest acts throughout the summer. A lovely rainy day option if the forecast turns, tickets from £24.
